Comparison between Stainless Steel Spring and Carbon Steel Spring

Ⅰ. Material composition difference between stainless steel spring and carbon steel spring

The main disadvantage of carbon steel spring is easy to rust, especially in the environment of high temperature and high humidity. Once rust corrodes the metal structure of the material, leading to material deformation and fracture. Therefore, if the product is used in high temperature and high humidity environment, stainless steel spring should be selected.

Ⅱ. Production process differenct between stainless steel spring and carbon steel spring

Each kind of spring has its unique production process. The production process of carbon steel material is to obtain the high hardness of spring by quenching and tempering the base metal with low hardness. This process leads to the poor toughness and low service life of carbon steel material. In practical application, there will be the phenomenon of overall fracture of spring. Stainless steel material is made from the base metal with low hardness, which is rolled several times by rolling mill to obtain the thickness and hardness required for the production of spring. At the same time, it can get better toughness, wihch will eventually lead to better service life and more stable performance than carbon steel spring. As one of the best compression spring manufacturers, we propose the stainless steel spring.

Ⅲ. Material price difference between stainless steel spring and carbon steel spring

Because the chromium content of stainless steel spring material accounts for 16-18%, and the nickel content accounts for 6-8%, the price of stainless steel spring is 2-3 times higher than that of carbon steel spring. The price of stainless steel spring with the same specification is about 2 times higher than that of carbon steel spring. The elasticity and hardness of stainless steel spring is lower than that of carbon steel spring, but its service life is longer. Carbon steel spring wire is easier to rust than that of stainless steel spring wire, so it has higher requirements on the service environment.
